Cappadocia in Photos - A Picturesque Turkish Tourist Destination

Cappadocia, located in central Turkey, is famous for its otherworldly rock formations. Geological events and erosion over millions of years have created fascinating pointed pinnacles, mushroom shaped rock towers, and “fairy chimneys.” Historically, homes, churches, castles and tombs were carved into and built from the red sandstone, some of which are still well preserved. Today, cave hotels, hot air balloon rides, and photo ops attract tourists from all over the world. A dolmus (minibus) driver in the area told us that 10 years Cappadocia saw many American tourists, but not anymore. He joked that everyone misses “tips” from Americans.
